Memorial Day Plunge

Memorial Day weekend brought for the second year in row a steady amount of rain! Didn't stop Greers Ferry Lake die-hards from shuttling out of their slips anytime the sun peaked out for an hour or so.

With such huge amounts of rain, the water temperature is colder than usual for this time of year. That didn't stop my 5-year old from taking the plunge, however. By Monday afternoon the sun was out, the lake was calm, and the Dwyer family was ready to cruise. (Note: I use the word cruise, I had no intention of getting in unless it was for a quick potty break!)

But the family charmer, Caroline Patton, decided she had had enough of looking over the side at the inviting water, and as soon as we stopped, she took a cannonball from the top level!

Now, here's where a parent will do anything for their kids. After an hour pleading with blue little lips for Mommy to please just try it, I gave up and did the dive. (Experience has taught me that it's much easier to dive right in than try to ease in off of the ladder.)

IT WAS NOT BAD! Actually, there is something to be said for swimming in Greers Ferry right after a good rain. The water was crisp, but not breath-taking. One good lap around the boat and I was perfectly comfortable. There is something different about the first swim of the season. Perhaps it's because the lake is still in it's infant stages of summer--the boats haven't churned the water for several months and the overall feel is smooth and inviting.

If you haven't had a chance to take your first swim, I encourage you to visit soon and go for it! Call us at the office to book your rental house and create this kind of memory for your family. You won't regret it!
